Tribute to Professor Chih Tang Sah

Professor Chih Tang Sah (November 10, 1932 – July 5, 2025), father of Dr. Dinah Sah and Dr. Robert Sah, was a pioneering Chinese-American electrical engineer and physicist, best known for co-inventing CMOS technology and advancing semiconductor device physics worldwide. His CMOS invention considerably reduced the power consumption of semiconductor electronics circuits and paved the way for compact, low-power electronic circuits such as those used in today’s cell phones and laptops.
Professor Sah made many substantial contributions to the CSF, especially to the SPISE and the Caribbean STEM Olympiads. Indeed, there are about a dozen SPISE alumni who are named the Linda Su-Nan Chang Sah SPISE Scholar in memory of his wife. It was also Prof. Sah who first suggested that the CSF award a platinum medal to competitors who exhibit nearly perfect performance in the Olympiads. Today it remains the most prestigious medal offered in the Caribbean STEM Olympiads.
